School Management Committees together with heads of learning institutions have been asked to embrace modern ways of construction to enable them to escape the challenge of lack of land for expansion.
Bonchari MP Dr Charles Onchoke said the construction of storey classrooms and administration blocks, with the help of qualified architects and masons, is a panacea for diminishing land in the region, especially in densely populated Kisii.
The MP was speaking when he inspected the construction progress of Nyakungu Comprehensive School in his constituency.
He said his NG-CDF office was committed to improving infrastructure in schools for pupils’ smooth learning and to creating a conducive environment that matches modern education standards.
The MP said the school received Sh20 million for its continued construction and promised to add more funds to ensure its complete readiness for occupation.
Teachers urged to embrace wider opportunities
The legislator asked teachers and parents to remain steadfast in their work of moulding the child, adding that theirs is a noble profession.
He said teaching remains one of the most mobile professions in the world, with teachers highly sought after both locally and internationally due to their transferable skills in communication, leadership, curriculum development and mentorship.

He noted that a qualified teacher can easily fit in various sectors, including administration, human resource management, community development, research and entrepreneurship, making education a profession that never tethers one to a single place but opens doors globally.
