The Bomet Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) fraternity is mourning the sudden death of Wilson Chirchir, the senior Principal of Chepkitwal Secondary School in Bomet East sub-county, describing him as a dedicated and transformative educationist whose short tenure left a lasting mark on the institution.
Chirchir, who is remembered for his discipline, visionary leadership, and commitment to academic excellence, is said to have significantly improved performance and strengthened administration structures at the school within just two years of service.
The teachers and students alike have described him as a firm but caring leader who inspired high standards and unity within the school community.
Speaking after visiting the bereaved family in Kiramwok village on Saturday, Bomet KUPPET Branch Executive Secretary Paul Kimeto led the tributes, terming the late principal a rare blend of professionalism and compassion.
“Chirchir was more than a principal; he was a caring father figure. He guided, supported and uplifted those under his leadership. His death is a painful loss, especially at a time when his leadership was most needed,” said Kimeto.
Kimeto further noted that the family is expected to receive Sh300,000 from the Social Health Authority (Social Health Authority) as part of the benefits due to the deceased teacher, which will be paid to the declared next of kin.
He urged the Teachers Service Commission (Teachers Service Commission) to fast-track the processing and disbursement of benefits without delay, arguing that timely support would help the bereaved family cope with the sudden loss.
“We are calling on TSC to ensure that benefits due to teachers are processed and released instantly to support families during such difficult moments. We also propose a policy where families receive support within at least six months after the demise of a teacher,” Kimeto added.
Branch Vice Chairperson Kibet Samoei also joined in mourning the late principal, describing him as a pillar in the education sector whose dedication to duty and passion for learners’ success will be deeply missed.
“This is a huge loss not only to Chepkitwal Secondary School but to the entire education fraternity in Bomet County. His legacy will live on through the systems he strengthened and the many lives he impacted,” he said.
