Catholic school principals have been challenged to redefine success in education by placing equal emphasis on academic excellence, faith formation and moral development to nurture a generation of ethical and service-oriented leaders.
Speaking during the 11th Conference of the Catholic Schools Principals Association of Kenya (CaSPAK) at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nyeri, Anthony Muheria, urged heads of Catholic institutions to remain steadfast in the Church’s mission of providing holistic education that transforms learners academically, spiritually and morally.
The three-day conference, running from August 4 to 6, has brought together Catholic school leaders from across the country to deliberate on strengthening leadership and safeguarding the mission of Catholic education.
Archbishop Muheria said Catholic schools should remain centres of evangelisation where learners encounter Christ, discover their God-given talents and are equipped to become principled leaders capable of serving both the Church and society.
He cautioned against measuring institutional success solely through national examination results, saying the true hallmark of Catholic education lies in producing graduates grounded in faith, integrity and a commitment to selfless service.

“The success of our schools should not be defined only by academic performance but by their ability to mould young people with strong values, unwavering faith and a passion to serve humanity,” he said.
Muheria further challenged school administrators to embrace visionary and servant leadership, noting that effective leadership demands wisdom, accountability, inclusivity and meaningful engagement with education stakeholders while remaining faithful to the Church’s mission.
He urged principals to identify, nurture and unlock the potential of every learner regardless of their circumstances, emphasising that each child possesses unique gifts bestowed by God that deserve to be developed.
Muheria also called on Catholic schools to strengthen learning environments that promote faith, character formation and servant leadership, saying these pillars remain central to the Catholic education philosophy.
He concluded his address with a rallying call to Catholic educators: “Build faith, nurture leaders and lead with purpose.”

The annual CaSPAK conference continues to serve as a key platform for Catholic school leaders to exchange best practices, strengthen institutional leadership and reaffirm their commitment to delivering quality, values-based education that prepares learners to make meaningful contributions to the Church, the nation and the global community.
