Excitement is building ahead of the Homa Bay Town sub-county ball games set to kick off on May 28 at Homa Bay school, with schools across the sub-county preparing for a two-day football showdown expected to showcase emerging young talent and fierce competition.

The tournament will bring together boys’ and girls’ teams from different schools in a battle for top honours, with organizers promising highly competitive matches as schools seek qualification and regional bragging rights.

In the boys’ category, traditional football giants Homabay Boys headline Pool A alongside Ndiru Mixed and Nyagidha Mixed, while Pool B features Ruga Mixed, Nyalkinyi Mixed and Wiobiero Mixed.

The teams are expected to battle through round-robin matches on the opening day before advancing to the semi-finals scheduled for the second day of the tournament.

Attention is likely to focus on Homabay Boys, who enter the competition as one of the most experienced sides, although rivals from the mixed schools are expected to provide stiff competition in what organizers say could be one of the most balanced tournaments in recent years.

The girls’ contest is equally expected to attract attention, with Ogande Girls, Magare Girls, Marindi Girls and Ogande Mixed all set to compete in a series of matches spread across the two days.

Coaches and teachers have expressed confidence in their teams, saying the competition will not only nurture talent but also strengthen discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship among learners.

The organizers have directed all teams to report early, with the first matches scheduled to kick off at exactly 9:00am.

Team managers have also been urged to ensure players are available in time for verification and pre-match checks to avoid delays.

Beyond competition, the tournament is expected to provide a platform for identifying promising football talent among learners while promoting interaction and unity among schools within the sub-county.

The finals are scheduled for Friday afternoon, where the best teams in both categories will battle for the coveted sub-county titles before advancing to the next stage of the school games calendar.
