The Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) National Championships started smoothly at Kisii University on Tuesday, May 26 after a last-minute shift of the venue from Asumbi Teachers Training College.

It is reported that the organisers moved the event to Kisii University due to ongoing renovation works on the Asumbi TTC playgrounds, which made it unsuitable to host the games.

The championships are scheduled to run until Friday, bringing together teams from the seven KTCSA regions across the country.

According to the General Organising Secretary, Paul Maina, all logistics including accommodation, transport, medical services, and security have been put in place at the university to ensure the smooth running of the competitions.

“We worked closely with Kisii University administration to secure the facilities. Security officers are on the ground, and all teams have been received and accommodated as planned,” Maina said.

KTCSA Chairman Duncan Okwaro expressed optimism for the success of the teams participating noting that the qualifying teams would be awarded various trophies and cash prizes at the close of the event.

Okwaro added that the qualifying teams will proceed to represent Kenya at the East African Games competitions set for Morogoro, Tanzania next year.

The championships feature athletics, ball games, and for the first time, tug-of-war as a new discipline.

KTCSA uses the annual event to promote discipline, teamwork, and professional values among teacher trainees, while also identifying talent for regional and national competitions.
