The Kenyan ambassador to Germany and Belgium, Joash Maangi, has challenged Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to make deliberate efforts to produce graduates who can fit anywhere in the world.
Maangi was speaking while addressing education stakeholders at the Gusii Education Stakeholders Forum, which attracted a wide range of participants, including Egerton University Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage, Open University of Kenya Vice Chancellor Prof. Elijah Omwenga, other university leaders, TVET principals, county education officials and private sector players.

He said the diaspora should not be viewed as insisting on money alone, but also on quality education and brain networking. Maangi said Germany and other European countries offer huge opportunities for Kenyan TVET graduates if they are trained to global standards.
He cited several education and work opportunities available in the diaspora, including Germany’s dual training system, where students learn in college while simultaneously working in industries, with paid apprenticeships available in nursing, hospitality, electrical engineering, plumbing, automotive technology and ICT. He also mentioned DAAD scholarships for technical studies in Germany, as well as Erasmus exchange programmes in Belgium and across the European Union.
