Kenya Ambassador to Netherlands Halima Mucheke has urged the youth in the country to embrace sports as a career and a decent source of income.

Speaking during Senator Kathuri Murungi ‘Kamashinani Foundation Football Tournament’ at Kiamiriru Primary School in North Imenti Constituency, Meru County, Mucheke said sports have currently become a multi-billion investment venture employing thousands of people who are earning a decent income.

She urged the youth to embrace sports in order to uplift their living standards, noting that it is an alternative to formal employment.

“I urge the youth in Kenya to embrace sports as a career and a decent source of income in order to uplift their living standards. A sport is a multi-billion investment venture employing thousands of people who are earning a decent income. This is the way to go because sports are alternative to formal employment,” said Ambassador Mucheke.

The envoy further encouraged youth to fully exploit their talents, emphasising that apart from keeping the players fit, it also brings the community together, unites the youth and uplift their living standards.

“Through sports, talent is tapped and nurtured as part of the journey to steer the youth to stardom. It is a life changing career away from normal classroom studies,” said Mucheke.

She said sports has brought positive changes to the society, noting that drug and substance abuse addicts have reformed and turn to sports as an alternative form of entertainment and source of income.

She urged the institutions of learning to also nurture sports in order to enable youth to develop and sharpen talent at an early age.

She lauded Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi for promoting the youth through sports saying that it is a sign of prudent leadership.

“Meru County Senator, through his Kamashinani Foundation, is actively investing in our youth by sponsoring football, volleyball, and netball tournaments. This is leadership in action, engaging the ground and delivering real impact,” She noted.
