The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Baringo Central jury is today in the spotlight as it prepares to deliver its much-anticipated verdict on the appeal lodged by AIC Philemon Chelagat Girls Secondary School against Kapropita Girls in a closely contested football match.

The appeal arises from a controversial penalty incident that has sparked widespread debate among players, coaches and football stakeholders within the sub-county.

According to match reports, Kapropita Girls were initially awarded a penalty, which was missed after the ball went over the crossbar.

However, the referee ordered a retake after ruling that the goalkeeper had moved off the goal line before the kick was taken, contrary to the Laws of the Game which require the goalkeeper to have at least part of one foot on or in line with the goal line at the moment the penalty is taken.

This decision immediately triggered protests from AIC Philemon Chelagat Girls, who argue that the ruling altered the flow and outcome of the match and did not reflect fair application of the rules. Kapropita Girls, however, maintain that the referee acted correctly and within the match regulations.

The KSSSA jury’s verdict is now expected to bring clarity and finality to the matter, determining whether the appeal will be upheld or dismissed.

The ruling is also expected to offer guidance on how similar incidents should be handled in future school competitions.

As anticipation builds, attention remains firmly fixed on the jury’s decision, which is likely to influence discussions on refereeing standards, discipline and adherence to football rules in school sports across the region.

The verdict is expected later today.
