Adult education stakeholders in Kwale County urged to put up modern infrastructure

Kwale County adult education stakeholders have been urged to cooperate to ensure that they put up modern infrastructure to enable learners to learn under conducive environment.

Speaking to Education News from Kwale town recently, Kwale county director of Adult Education, David Thengele revealed that lack of physical learning facilities has hampered effective learning in the region.

“Learners in the county are learning in poor environment due to lack of modern infrastructure,” Thengele stated.

He, disclosed that learners are taking their lessons at poor environment, thus discouraging them from attending classes regularly.

“The Directorate of Adult Education does not have classes of its own in the region, learners are attending their lessons at nearby primary schools and Mosques,” he explained

Thengele, however urged Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the county to come forward and support adult education programmes in order to make them a success.

He further urged the government to direct adequate funds to the county for the implementation of adult education development projects.

At the same time, Thengele disclosed that the county is currently facing a big challenge of teacher shortage, adding that the situation has hindered effective teaching and learning.

He asked the government to employ more teachers in the country and deploy them to the county to enhance effective teaching and learning.
