A female Primary Teacher Examination candidate, Corrine Nyaranga from West Pokot Teachers College developed labour pains during the Art and Craft and Education exams.

Fortunately, she was rushed to West Pokot County Hospital by the college authority where she was examined by doctors and immediately admitted.

“After developing labour pains, I clearly knew that my lone wonderful opportunity in life was no more, being the only pillar of my family and after being supported by well-wishers like the county government, the Constituency Development Fund and other, I sobbed endlessly not knowing what the next step would be”, said Nyaranga.

The Nursing officer in charge, Richard Anzere confirmed that they admitted the student who was writhing in labor pains. Upon realizing that she was a candidate taking the National Exams, we spared no effort and assisted her to deliver. We then assigned her a special room here in the hospital where she would nurse her baby and write her exams comfortably”

West Pokot Deputy Examinations Officer Mr. Nelson Musani said the candidate has been counseled and a supervisor, invigilator and security officer have been deployed to monitor her during her examination.

“I would like to thank the Kenya National Examinations Council for coming in handy to rescue my situation and creating a serene atmosphere to cuddle my baby and the examination as well,” she added.

“This was indeed one of my darkest moments in teaching since Corrine is one of my best candidates he is indeed an A student in spite of having had incessant challenges with fee payment and hailing from a challenged background. Even so, I thank God, it’s all over,” said the school Principal.
