While inspecting the delivery of desks at Olekasasi Primary in Ongata Rongai Kajiado County today, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr. Belio Kipasang said that the government will pay artisans as soon as possible.

According to the PS, the programme aims at improving learning environment for learners.

“The project aims at stimulating the economy by supporting Small enterprises whose fortunes were harmed by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic” added Dr. Belio.

The PS outlined the importance of classroom furniture as crucial elements of learning environment. He said desks enhance sitting arrangement necessary for social distancing as required by MoH guidelines on the Covid-19.

The government set aside Sh1.9 billion under the Economic Stimulus Programme for the supply of the locally assembled furniture to public primary and secondary schools countrywide.

The PS later toured a workshop in Kiserian Town that is producing the desks for schools in the area.

Present during the occasion were Assistant County Commissioner I for Kajiado North MS Bathsheba Osiemo and the Deputy Director of Education for Kajiado North, Mr. John Njoroge.
