Chuka Varsity acquires two brand new fire engines

The management of Chuka University has bought two ultra modern fire engines at a cost of Sh70 million in a bid to contain fire in case of an outbreak within and outside the institution.
The university Vice Chancellor Prof. Erastus Njoka said the two fire engines dubbed ”Rapid Intervention Vehicles” will serve the institution and the surrounding community including the entire mount Kenya East region.
He said Tharaka-Nithi , Meru, Embu ,Isiolo and Kirinyaga counties among others will all benefit from the fire engines in order to ensure that residents do not lose life or property to infernos.
Speaking at the Chuka University main campus, the VC said the smaller fire engines was purchased at a cost of Sh15 million while the bigger one which is set to arrive in September this year was bought at Sh55 million.
“The two fire engines were bought in order to make sure that there is security against fire at the university and the surrounding communities. The smaller fire engines is already here. It will be used to penetrate into areas where the bigger one is unable to access”, said the VC.
He said the two fire engines will be moving together with the smaller one being used to penetrate areas with narrow roads in order to ensure that all the parts affected by fire are reached.
He noted that the fire engines are unique and very rare to find apart from also being expensive.
The VC said in a bid to contain security both within and outside the university, the management has constructed an Administration Police camp inside the institution, noting that it is already operation after police officers were posted in the facility.
