Heavy storm accompanied by strong winds blew off roofs of three classrooms at a primary school in Mwala, Machakos County recently.
According to Francis Thuva who is the head teacher of Mwaasua Primary School, the fierce storm blew off the roofs of classrooms housing lower primary pupils.
The head teacher urged the local MP, Vincent Musyoka and the county government’s department of emergency services to swiftly move in and assist in repairing the damaged classrooms in order to ensure learning continues uninterrupted.
Elsewhere, three schools in Masinga Sub-county, have been reopened after a week-long standoff between parents and sand harvesters.
Mbingoni, Kaonyweni and Inyanzaa primary schools in Kithioko location were abruptly shut after parents withdraw their children from schools protesting against sand harvesting in the area.
The schools were re-opened following the intervention of County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa.
Sakwa also asked the County Assembly to develop a Bill to regulate sand harvesting in the county.
She said the Bill, if passed into law will help regulate child labour and address the issues of sand harvesting in the county.
