The Government has constructed nine new technical and vocational colleges in Coast region.
Speaking during the official opening of this year’s Coast TVET Fair and Technology Exhibition held in Kilifi town recently, Coast Regional TVET Co-ordinator, Mr. Jackson Andai said that the Government has taken the initiative in order to bring technical education services closer to the people. He added that the technical institutions in the Coast region which have been completed are Taveta, Wumingu and Mwatate.
The Government has already posted principals to the newly completed technical training institutions.
The TVET Co-ordinator, however, revealed that the construction of seven other technical training institutions in the region is currently on going.
The seven Technical and Vocational Colleges which are currently under construction are Magarini TTI, Kaloleni TTI and Rabai TTI in Kilifi County, Kizingitini TTI in Lamu East, Mpeketoni TTI in Lamu West in Lamu County, while Likoni TTI is in Mombasa County and Fayya TTI in Bura Constituency in Tana River County.
Mr. Andai stated that the target is to have at least one technical training institution in every constituency in the six counties in Coast region.
