The Busia County Government plans to establish a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub at Kisoko in Nambale Constituency in honour of veteran journalist Moses Radoli.

The proposed facility is expected to enhance access to digital education, computer literacy and skills training for young people in the region, while also serving as a centre for journalism and digital content development.

The announcement was made by County Executive Committee Member for Water Peter Odima, who represented Governor Paul Otuoma during Radoli’s burial ceremony at his home in Nayombe Village.

Odima said the county government supports the proposal and has identified public land in Kisoko that could be considered for the establishment of the facility.

“The Governor has heard your request and we support this cause fully. There is land belonging to the County Government in Kisoko area which we shall consider for this noble project in honour of our son Radoli,” Odima told mourners.

The proposal for the ICT hub was presented by veteran journalist Ken Bosire on behalf of the Kenya Editors’ Guild and journalists who attended the funeral.

Bosire called on Daystar University, which was represented at the ceremony, to partner with the initiative by providing technical support, mentorship and expertise in digital education and journalism.

The proposed hub is expected to provide computer literacy and digital skills training to young people, particularly unemployed youth, while expanding access to internet-enabled learning and employment opportunities.

Learners and residents would also be able to access e-learning platforms, online government services and other digital resources without travelling to Busia town.

Community media centre

The facility is further expected to incorporate a community media centre where aspiring journalists can receive practical training in news writing, reporting, photography and digital content creation.

Chairman of the Kenya Correspondents Association Oloo Janak called on Busia-based journalists, working alongside the county’s Director of Governorship, Oscar Obonyo, to establish a forum to organise a Moses Radoli Talk.

The proposed forum could serve as a platform to celebrate Radoli’s contribution to journalism while providing an opportunity to launch the ICT hub initiative.

Odima also challenged journalists to form a steering committee that would work closely with the county government and other stakeholders to guide the project.

Once established, the hub is expected to complement existing efforts to equip young people with digital and employability skills, while creating opportunities for access to online learning and digital work.

The community media component will also provide a platform for nurturing aspiring journalists and preserving Radoli’s professional legacy among the younger generation.

The initiative comes as access to digital skills and technology continues to play an important role in education, employment and communication, particularly among young people in rural and peri-urban communities.
