Bungoma teachers selected for World Teachers’ Day honours

Several teachers from Bungoma County have been selected for recognition in the 2026 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Teachers’ Roll of Honour for their outstanding contribution to education and learner development.

The teachers will be feted during the national World Teachers’ Day celebrations scheduled for October 5, 2026, in Nairobi, where educators from across the country will be recognised for their exemplary service in different areas of the teaching profession.

Among those selected is Simiyu Kizito Wafula of Cardinal Otunga Girls Secondary School, who will receive the Teacher Mentor Award for his contribution to mentoring and supporting learners and fellow educators.

Simiyu Godfrey Wabomba of Moi Kamusinga AC Girls has also earned national recognition under the Co-curricular and Talent Development Award, highlighting his contribution to nurturing learners’ talents and participation in co-curricular activities.

Child protection and resilience

In the Early Years Educators Award category, Mary Owuor of Sinoko Primary School will represent Bungoma, while Anne Wambulwa of Bungoma DEB Primary School and Antony Wanyonyi of Nalondo CBM Special Unit for the Physically Handicapped have been selected for the Child Protection Champion Award.

The Roll of Honour also recognises teachers who have demonstrated resilience in the face of challenges. Denis Simiyu of Kibichori FYM Primary School and Sarah Terem of Kamuneru CPK Primary School will receive the Most Resilient Teacher Award.

Meanwhile, Earlson Mkoje Efumbi of Friends School Kamusinga has been selected for President’s Award Recognition, further placing Bungoma teachers among educators being acknowledged nationally for their service.

The recognition comes as the country prepares to mark World Teachers’ Day, an occasion that celebrates the contribution of teachers to education, mentorship, talent development, child protection and the overall growth of learners.

The selection of the Bungoma teachers across various award categories underscores the diverse roles played by educators beyond classroom instruction, including nurturing talent, safeguarding children, mentoring learners and supporting pupils facing difficult circumstances.
