Wiyeta Girls Senior Principal Esther Kibor has been transferred after four years at the Trans Nzoia-based school, bringing to an end a tenure marked by notable success in girls’ football.
Kibor leaves Wiyeta after guiding the institution to some of its biggest achievements on the national and regional school sports scene, including appearances at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national finals and the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) finals. Her tenure saw Wiyeta establish itself among the leading girls’ football teams in the country, with the school consistently competing for honours at county, regional and national levels.
In 2023, Wiyeta, under Kibor’s leadership, won the Trans Nzoia county girls’ football title after edging St Joseph’s Girls 1-0 in the final, with the winning goal coming in the 89th minute through Jacinta Musanga. Wiyeta had earlier thrashed Kwanza Girls 5-0 in the semi-final. The school’s football success continued to attract national attention as Wiyeta reached the KSSSA national final at Bukhungu Stadium, further underlining its status as one of the country’s top schoolgirls’ football sides.

The team also represented Kenya at the FEASSSA championships in Huye, Rwanda, where it advanced to the final, giving Wiyeta another opportunity to compete against some of the strongest school teams in East Africa.
Kibor’s influence on Wiyeta’s football programme was also evident in the team’s resurgence in Trans Nzoia, where in another county final, Wiyeta defeated St Joseph’s Girls 3-1, with Philia Khayesi, Maria Brigid and Maggy Melitas finding the net.
Her departure marks the end of an important chapter for the school, with the incoming administration expected to build on the sporting foundation established during her tenure. Reports indicate that Kibor has been transferred to Nandi County, with Mrs Murunga expected to take over the leadership of Wiyeta Girls. The transfer information is currently being circulated publicly, although official communication from the relevant education authorities would provide definitive confirmation.
