Kapenguria University College in West Pokot County, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, is set to admit its pioneer cohort of students this September.
The intake follows a feasibility study conducted by a task force appointed by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin to guide the establishment of the institution. The task force, headed by Professor Joshua Konyoike and Dr Lydia Market, both of Moi University, conducted public participation and considered several potential sites for the university, including Chewoyet, Chesta, Kodich, Keringet and Kapenguria Boys.
The institution has since been established at Keringet, within Kapenguria Constituency in West Pokot County.

Speaking during the burial of retired nurse Marcella Maket in Lityei village, Presidential Advisor on Economic Transformation Brian Ptoton said Kapenguria University College is set to receive 487 pioneer students this month.
“The successful students to be admitted will undertake courses including Education Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts and Agriculture,” Ptoton said.
Ptoton appealed to students in the region to enrol in large numbers, noting that the establishment of the university had brought higher education closer to residents of West Pokot.
