The Egerton University Students Association (EUSA) Parliament has impeached its Director of Academics, Derrick Nyambane Oeso, following a parliamentary sitting held on August 14, 2026, over accusations that he violated the association’s constitution and breached the trust entrusted to him as an office bearer.
According to a notice signed by EUSA Speaker Kelvin Egesa, the students’ parliament resolved to remove Oeso from office after considering an impeachment motion containing five charges, which were put to a vote during the proceedings.
The first charge accused Oeso of gross misconduct, with the motion alleging that he acted contrary to the standards of integrity, accountability and ethical leadership expected of an EUSA office holder under Article 71 of the association’s constitution.

Oeso was further accused of extorting first-year students, with the motion alleging that he solicited or obtained money or other benefits from students in matters connected to his office — conduct the motion described as an abuse of the authority entrusted to him.
A third charge accused him of acting ultra vires by signing an official document on behalf of the EUSA Treasurer without the constitutional or legal authority to do so. The parliament also accused him of involvement in the irregular and illegal allocation of orientation slots, alleging that he participated in or facilitated the allocation of opportunities in a manner that was unconstitutional, unfair and inconsistent with established EUSA procedures.
A fifth charge concerned an unauthorised communication and press conference allegedly conducted on behalf of EUSA over a matter the students’ parliament had not yet discussed or determined. According to the notice, the parliament argued that the communication risked undermining the confidence of the student body and compromising the integrity, neutrality and impartiality of the association in administrative matters.
Following the proceedings, EUSA declared Oeso impeached in accordance with its parliamentary standing orders and constitution. The Speaker further directed that Oeso would no longer be authorised to act in the name of EUSA, warning that the association would not be liable for any actions he undertakes on its behalf going forward. The notice was addressed to all Egerton University students and members of the students’ association.

The allegations contained in the impeachment notice are claims made during the student parliamentary process and do not, by themselves, establish wrongdoing unless independently substantiated through the appropriate procedures.
