- Three West Pokot athletes have begun their journey to Morogoro, Tanzania, to represent Kenya.
- Dominic Pkiror Domoruk, Solomon Kibet and Rehema Chepkorir will compete in different athletics events.
- County sports officials and supporters have expressed confidence that the athletes will fly Kenya’s flag high.
The West Pokot County team that will represent Kenya at the East Africa Athletics Competitions to be held in Morogoro, Tanzania, has started the journey from Kenya to Tanzania.
“We have been cleared at the Namanga border point and we are now heading to Tanzania together with three athletes from West Pokot County who are in high spirits,” said Fridah Arusho, the KNUT Woman Representative, West Pokot County.
The three athletes include Dominic Pkiror Domoruk, who will participate in the 5,000m, Solomon Kibet, who will participate in the 1,500m and 3,000m respectively, and Rehema Chepkorir, who will participate in cross country.
Fridah Arusho, who is a great sports lady in West Pokot County, visited the athletes at their camp at Thika High School, gave them moral support and is currently travelling with them to Morogoro, Tanzania.
Speaking on phone from the Namanga border, Arusho said that the athletes have promised Kenyans straight wins.
Other buses that will be transporting the cheering squad, teachers and games officials will start the journey tomorrow evening to Morogoro, Tanzania, to provide moral support to the athletes.
West Pokot rallies behind team
“Our commitment, unity and solidarity is the yardstick for our success,” said Geoffrey Kimtai, the West Pokot Sub-County Games Secretary, who will be travelling tomorrow to join the team in Tanzania.
