- Kisii University has advertised 10 Master’s scholarships across four programmes hosted at Kisii, Chuka and Moi universities, while TUM and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology have listed a combined 14 Master’s and PhD positions in engineering, computing and science fields.
- Successful applicants across all three institutions have been required to meet common eligibility criteria, including an age limit of 30 years and a Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) degree, with application deadlines falling between August 18 and August 25, 2026.
The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and Kisii University have jointly opened applications for postgraduate scholarships funded under the African Development Bank’s Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Phase II project, targeting priority Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
The initiative is designed to expand access to postgraduate education, training and research in disciplines considered critical to Kenya’s economic development, spanning engineering, computing, health sciences, food science and biochemistry. Each of the three institutions has set its own deadlines and eligibility requirements, though several conditions apply across the board: successful candidates must be Kenyan citizens aged below 30, hold at least a Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) degree in a relevant field from a recognised and accredited university, and be registered or registrable with the relevant professional or regulatory body where applicable.
Most beneficiaries will also serve as Graduate Assistants during their studies, contribute to teaching and research activities, and be expected to transition into PhD studies once their Master’s programmes are complete, under bonding terms set by their respective universities. All programmes are scheduled to begin in August 2026.
Kisii University
At Kisii University, 10 Master’s scholarships are on offer across four programmes: two in Information Technology, three in Nursing, two in Medicine and three in Biomedical Sciences. The scholarship package covers tuition fees and research costs for the duration of study. Notably, the programmes will not all be domiciled at Kisii itself; Information Technology and Biomedical Sciences will run at Kisii University, Nursing will be offered at Chuka University, and Medicine at Moi University.
Applicants are required to obtain application forms from the university’s website and submit them to the Vice Chancellor, Kisii University, PO Box 408-40200, Kisii, by August 25, 2026, at 5 pm. The university has encouraged persons with disabilities to apply.
The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM)
The Technical University of Mombasa has advertised five Master’s scholarships, with one slot each available in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building and Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Computer Science. As with the other institutions, the package covers tuition and research costs, and successful candidates will be engaged as Graduate Assistants while working toward an eventual transition to PhD studies.
TUM has stated it charges no application fees and has specifically encouraged women, persons with disabilities and members of marginalised groups who meet the requirements to apply. Applications must be submitted online through the TUM careers portal only; the university said email and hard-copy submissions will not be accepted, and should be addressed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (AFP), Technical University of Mombasa, PO Box 90420-80100, ahead of the August 18, 2026 deadline.
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology has the widest spread of opportunities, advertising nine Master’s-level Graduate Assistant positions alongside two PhD scholarships. At Master’s level, the university is offering two positions in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (specialising in Microelectronic Engineering), two in Mechanical Engineering (specialising in Machine Tools), one in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (specialising in Power Systems Engineering), two in Computer Science, one in Food Science and Technology, and one in Industrial Biochemistry.

Separately, the university has advertised two PhD scholarships, one in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power Systems Engineering) and another in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering). The advertisement additionally lists technologist and technician positions alongside some of the Master’s programmes, though these are distinct from the Graduate Assistant roles.
