- KSSSA has indicated it cannot fund all third-place finishers, leaving Menengai’s participation in doubt despite the team’s qualification.
- Leaders and well-wishers have been called upon to support the team, with Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera already having backed Archbishop Njenga’s girls’ football team.
Menengai High School players have been urgently recalled and summoned for yellow fever vaccinations after the team qualified and was included to represent the Rift Valley region at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The development has renewed hopes that Menengai could still feature in the regional competition after its participation was thrown into doubt by funding challenges.
Menengai finished third in boys’ football at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national championships and was subsequently pooled for the FEASSSA Games.
However, KSSSA indicated that it could not finance all teams that finished third in their respective disciplines, leaving Menengai’s participation uncertain.

Schools that can raise funds for their participation have, however, been allowed to proceed to Morogoro.
Menengai had already reported to camp in preparation for the regional games before the players were released after the funding setback, leaving them heartbroken.
The urgent recall for yellow fever vaccination has now given the team fresh hope, although it still needs financial support to make the trip to Tanzania.
The Nakuru County Government has been urged to intervene and help meet the team’s travel and participation costs, particularly because Menengai has already been pooled in the boys’ football category.

The appeal has also been extended to leaders, businesses and well-wishers from the Rift Valley region to rescue the team’s FEASSSA dream.
Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has already stepped in to support Archbishop Njenga, which finished third in girls’ football, setting an example for other leaders to support schools facing similar financial challenges.
For a team that has earned its place on the East African stage, stakeholders are being urged to ensure financial constraints do not deny the young players an opportunity to represent the region.
