Kenya’s swimming team is targeting a return to regional glory at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro, a year after narrowly missing out on the title.
The 30-member squad, comprising 15 boys and 15 girls, will be led by swimmers who impressed during the national Term One competitions in Kisumu, where Kenya finished second overall.
In Morogoro, Kenya will face stiff competition from defending champions Uganda, along with Rwanda and hosts Tanzania, both of whom are expected to push the two regional heavyweights for top honours.
Coach Thomas Muli expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation, saying the team has continued to sharpen its form since the national championships.
“We have a strong team that is not just ready but eager to excel. I have confidence that they will do well because they have been training well and also kept improving after the national games through various swimming competitions,” Muli said.
Isaiah Munene of Moi Educational Centre, named the most valuable swimmer at the national level, will spearhead Kenya’s boys’ team, while Kamwele Maina of Samal School will lead the girls’ squad.

The boys’ team features Don Ndirangu of Kiota School, Hashim Mohammed of Safina School, Nael Thuranira and Jake Trento of Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, and Waleed Khalid of Shree Swaminarayan Mombasa. Also selected are Frank Okuthe and Seth Nyagwa of Swaminarayan Nairobi, Jeremy Mwamsi and Charles Warui of Oshwal Academy Mombasa, Robert Schuman Obiero of Kisumu Academy, Aba Gitonga of Pioneer School Murang’a, Baraka Chacha of Utumishi Academy, Jeremy Komba of Lukenya Boys and Gad Wema of Jalaram Kisumu.
On the girls’ side, the squad includes Elaine Wamuyu of Brookhouse School, Lakisha Waswa and Savai Naomi of Laiser Hill, and Nicole Ndirangu of Kiota School. Rusinga School contributes three swimmers in Thandiwe Kamanga, Sasha Keter and Wairimu Kibuka, while Nuru Azu of Swaminarayan Nairobi, Isabelle Mwangi of Kianda School and Kendra Hawi of Kisumu Academy round out the middle of the roster. Completing the girls’ team are Vekheina Leboy of Testimony, Sayinah Omoro of Jaffery Academy, Vanita Mich of Jalaram Kisumu and Jewel Mbui of Oshwal Academy Nairobi.

Kenya has a strong tradition in regional swimming and will be banking on that pedigree, together with the squad’s continued improvement, to reclaim the title from Uganda.
With the defending champions determined to retain their crown and Rwanda and Tanzania pushing to close the gap, Kenya will need to sustain its form throughout the competition to finish in the top position.
