- Winning teams from each pool have been set to advance to the knockout stages on 12th August, with the finals scheduled for 13th August ahead of the national teachers’ games.
The Lake Region Teachers Tournament got underway on 9th August at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School, drawing teachers from across the region for the annual event that blends sporting competition, health promotion and professional bonding.
Organisers split the fixtures across two venues, Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School and Nyaore Polytechnic, to accommodate the large turnout and keep matches running smoothly. Games officials said the two-venue arrangement has helped ease congestion and allowed more teachers to take part.
Pooling for all participating teams has now been completed, with sides drawn into four groups, Pool A, B, C and D, playing concurrent matches at both venues.
Pool A brings together Kisii Central, Vihiga, Siaya, Khwisero, Kabras and Upper Volta, pitting teachers from the Nyanza and Western regions against one another in what is expected to produce fast, tactical contests.

Pool B features Nyamira, Rachuonyo South, Bungoma, Rangwe, Mt. Elgon and Kitale. Drawing teachers from Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley, it has emerged as one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.
Pool C comprises Muhoroni, Nyakachi, Saboti, Turkana, Busia and Kakamega. Turkana’s inclusion adds geographical distance and diversity to the group, while Busia and Kakamega are expected to renew a familiar rivalry on the field.
Pool D rounds out the groupings with Kisii Central, Cheptais, Bumula, Suna East and Trans-Nzoia, bringing together teachers from Kisii, Bungoma, Migori and Trans-Nzoia counties for what promises to be tight contests in both ball games and athletics.

The opening day at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho was a lively affair, with teachers turning up in team colours, accompanied by drums and cheers that turned the fields into a festival of sportsmanship.
Beyond the trophies on offer, organisers say the tournament continues to serve as a platform for teachers to network, stay fit and exchange ideas on education matters.
With pooling complete and group matches now underway, attention shifts to the top teams in each pool, who will advance to the knockout stages on 12th August. The finals will be held on 13th August at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School field, with the overall winners set to represent Lake Region at the national teachers’ games.
