- Moi Girls Kamusinga have travelled to Morogoro, Tanzania, to defend their East Africa handball title against 10 established regional sides.
- Kamusinga have retained their national title in Kisumu and are aiming to extend their regional reign to two years running.
- St Joseph’s Girls Senior School Kitale have been drawn in Group B as they push to improve on last year’s bronze-medal finish.
Handball queens Moi Girls Kamusinga are set to showcase their outstanding tactical talent in the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Handball tournament as they battle to defend their title in Morogoro, Tanzania. Having successfully retained their national title in Kisumu earlier this year, Kamusinga are now determined to maintain their dominance on the regional stage.
In the tournament, they will face 10 other sides, among them their peers St. Joseph’s Girls Senior School Kitale and Nyakach Girls, whom they outranked during the National Term One games to emerge reigning handball champions.
However, they face stiff competition from their opponents from Uganda, Rwanda and hosts, Tanzania, who are eager to dethrone them. Kamusinga coach, Godfrey Simiyu, said the team will rise to the occasion.
“We are ready to defend our title because we will fight to the end. We never relent, and we are taking the same spirit to this year’s challenge. We are in a tough pool, but I believe my players are equal to the task,” Simiyu said.

Moi Girls Kamusinga are determined to extend their reign for two years in a row after attaining the East Africa crown from the Ugandans last year.
They had won the trophy in 2019 but lost it to Rwanda’s Kiziguro Secondary School after resumption of the games in 2022 following a two-year suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Uganda’s Kawanda Secondary grabbed it in 2023, then passed it to their Kibuli Secondary School in 2024.

Kamusinga launch their battle to retain the title in Group A alongside Nyakach Girls, former winners Kiziguro and Kawanda as well as Wampeewo Ntake from Uganda and their hosts Kazima. They must come out of the six-team pool unscathed to increase their chances of retaining their title.
Kenya’s national silver medallists, St Joseph’s Girls Senior School Kitale, have been placed in Group B alongside 2024 and multiple-time East Africa champions Kibuli, their fellow Ugandan side Gombe, as well as Tanzanian teams Diongoya and Ibaba.
St Joseph’s will be determined to overcome the preliminary stage and secure a place in the knockouts. After finishing third last year, the Kenyan side will be aiming to improve on their bronze-medal finish and break into the top two.
