The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has confirmed that payments for all professionals contracted to administer the 2025 national examinations have been processed, with those yet to receive their dues expected to have the money reflected in their M-PESA accounts by the end of the day.
In an update issued to contracted professionals, KNEC said individuals who fail to receive their payments by the close of business should contact their respective Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs) for assistance and further follow-up.
The examination body outlined several reasons that could delay or prevent payment.
One of the main issues is registration of the CP2 account using an Airtel, Telkom or Equity mobile line instead of an M-PESA-enabled Safaricom line, as KNEC processes payments through M-PESA.
KNEC also noted that some contracted professionals may not have opened CP2 accounts, particularly those appointed manually at the sub-county level, meaning their details may not have been captured in the council’s payment system.
Other factors affecting payment include failure to provide a valid KRA PIN in the CP2 account, making statutory tax deductions impossible, and failure by supervisors to submit or confirm the online attendance register, which verifies the actual number of days worked by each contracted officer.
Discrepancies may affect payments
The council further stated that personnel attached to examination centres whose results were cancelled because of examination malpractice are not eligible for payment.
In addition, discrepancies in personal information—including names, national identity card numbers, phone numbers, KRA PINs or M-PESA registration details—between the CP2 account and KNEC records may also delay payment processing.
KNEC has advised any contracted professional who remains unpaid despite meeting all the payment requirements to seek assistance from the Sub-County Director of Education for verification and resolution of the issue.

The announcement is expected to bring relief to thousands of centre managers, supervisors, invigilators and other examination officials who participated in the administration of the 2025 national examinations and had been awaiting payment for their services.
