Western Region champions Chesamisi Boys have been crowned the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two boys’ volleyball champions after defeating Rift Valley’s ACK Chepsaita 3-1 in a thrilling final played on Thursday at M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
Chesamisi produced a spirited display to overcome a determined Chepsaita side, winning 25-23, 14-25, 25-23 and 25-18 to lift their maiden national title.
The new champions had a dramatic journey to the national championships. They had initially lost to Malava Boys during the Western Region games but secured a place at the nationals after Malava Boys were disqualified over an eligibility issue, handing Chesamisi a second chance that they fully capitalised on.
In the final, Chesamisi edged a closely contested opening set 25-23 before Chepsaita responded emphatically to claim the second set 25-14 and level the match.
Chesamisi regained their composure in the third set, once again winning 25-23 in another tight battle before dominating the fourth set 25-18 through disciplined defending, effective blocking and clinical attacks to seal the championship.
Chepsaita, who were making their first appearance in the national final, settled for second place after an impressive campaign.
The title also ushers in a new era in Kenyan school volleyball following the exit of outgoing national and East Africa champions Cheptil Boys.
The Rift Valley giants failed to defend their national crown after they were eliminated during the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games held in Narok County, leaving the title race wide open.

Chesamisi’s triumph caps one of the biggest turnaround stories of this year’s championship, with the Bungoma County side making the most of a reprieve at the regional level to emerge as Kenya’s new school volleyball kings.
Both Chesamisi and Chepsaita are expected to represent Kenya at the forthcoming Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, subject to the Ministry of Education’s final team allocation.
