- Kwale Senior School has received a water bowser and a new tuition block following its impressive 2025 KCSE performance.
- The support, funded through the Matuga NG-CDF, is expected to improve water access, hygiene and the overall learning environment.
- Leaders say continued investment in education infrastructure and scholarships is helping more learners excel and secure university admission.
Improved access to water is expected to boost learning at Kwale Senior School after the institution received a water bowser to address persistent water shortages at the school in Kwale County.
The water bowser was donated through the Matuga National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) to guarantee a reliable water supply, improve hygiene and provide students with a conducive learning environment.
The water bowser was handed over during celebrations marking the school’s stellar performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, where Kwale Senior High School emerged among the best-performing schools in the Coast region.
The school produced 403 candidates who attained grades ranging from A to C+, qualifying them for admission to local and international universities.
Infrastructure to enhance learning
Speaking during the event, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya, who also commissioned a new tuition block, said investment in education infrastructure is critical to improving learning outcomes.
He said the water bowser and the new learning block will play a major role in promoting education and improving academic performance.
“Adequate classrooms and a reliable water supply are essential for quality education. These facilities will enhance the learning environment and contribute to even better academic performance.”
Mvurya also lauded the Kwale County Government for expanding the Elimu ni Sasa scholarship programme, saying it has enabled hundreds of vulnerable students to remain in school and excel academically.
“I commend the County Government for expanding the Elimu ni Sasa scholarship programme, which has enabled many students to stay in school and excel academically.”
Scholarship programme transforming lives
Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani said the county government has invested more than Sh175 million in scholarships and school infrastructure through the Elimu ni Sasa programme to improve the learning environment.
She revealed that 16 students who qualified for university this year are beneficiaries of the county scholarship programme.
“We are proud that 16 of the students joining university this year are Elimu ni Sasa beneficiaries, proving that investing in education transforms lives.”
Kwale Senior High School Principal Mike Mutua attributed the school’s outstanding performance to collaboration between the national and county governments, teachers, parents and students.
He said the scholarship programme has enabled many learners from vulnerable families to remain in school, while continued investment in infrastructure has created an environment that supports academic excellence.
“The scholarship programme has enabled many students to stay in school and pursue their education. We sincerely thank the County Government for investing in our children’s future.”

The principal noted that sustained partnerships between government, parents and the school community have strengthened teaching and learning, positioning Kwale Senior High School among the region’s top-performing institutions.
