The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) has invited career guidance teachers from primary, junior and senior schools across the country to register for a three-day virtual training programme aimed at strengthening career guidance services in schools.
According to a circular, the training will be held from August 24 to 26, 2026, and is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to effectively guide learners in making informed education and career choices under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
KEMI, the Ministry of Education’s capacity-building agency mandated to provide education management training, research and consultancy services, said the programme will enhance teachers’ ability to identify learners’ interests, talents, abilities and aspirations while supporting them in selecting appropriate career pathways.
Training to strengthen career guidance services
During the three-day virtual programme, participants will be trained on career guidance information and exploration, learner profiling, talent identification and nurturing, labour market trends, career pathways under CBE, and strategies for engaging parents and other stakeholders in learners’ career development.
The institute noted that the training will also strengthen teachers’ capacity to establish and coordinate effective career guidance programmes within their respective schools, ensuring learners receive structured support as they transition through different levels of education.
Teachers interested in participating are required to register and pay a training and certification fee of Sh1,000.
Participants are also expected to have access to a suitable digital device and a reliable internet connection to enable full participation in the virtual sessions.

KEMI said detailed information on the training schedule and joining instructions will be shared with registered participants before the programme begins.
In the circular signed by Chief Executive Officer Dr Maurice Odondo, the institute encouraged teachers to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that effective career guidance is critical in helping learners make informed decisions about their education, talents, career pathways and future aspirations.

The training forms part of KEMI’s ongoing efforts to support the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Education framework by enhancing the professional capacity of teachers responsible for career guidance in Kenyan schools.
