Parents in Bomet County have been urged to closely monitor their children during the August school holiday to shield them from irresponsible behaviour and ensure they return to school ready to learn.
The call comes as schools across the country close for the mid-term break, amid concerns that some parents neglect their parental responsibilities during school holidays.
Speaking at Pentecostal Mission School in Kapkures, Bishop Joseph Koech said parents have a critical role in shaping their children’s future by keeping them engaged in meaningful activities.
“The school holiday is not a time for parents to abandon their responsibilities. Children need proper guidance and supervision so that they return to school disciplined, healthy and ready to continue with their education,” Bishop Koech said.
He urged parents to spend quality time with their children and involve them in productive activities to keep them away from idleness and negative influences.
“When children are left idle, they become vulnerable to bad company and irresponsible behaviour. Parents should engage them positively throughout the holiday,” he added.
Church reaffirms commitment to education
Bishop Koech reaffirmed the church’s commitment to promoting access to quality education in the region, noting that it continues to work with various partners to improve learning opportunities for children.
“Education remains one of the greatest investments we can make in our communities. We will continue partnering with stakeholders to ensure more children have access to quality learning,” he said.
During the event, a team of donors from the United States distributed books, pens and other learning materials to pupils at the school, reaffirming their commitment to supporting education initiatives in the area.
The donors said they believe investing in education is key to transforming communities and pledged to continue supporting schools through learning resources.
Community welcomes support
Parents and guardians praised the church and its development partners for their contribution to education and healthcare in the area.
They said the establishment of the school has not only improved access to education but has also created employment opportunities and stimulated the local economy.
“This school has transformed our community by creating jobs and making education more accessible for our children. We appeal to more well-wishers and development partners to invest in our area,” said one parent during the event.

The Pentecostal Church of God, working with donors, sponsors six schools across the country—one each in Thika, Nyeri and Bungoma, and three in Bomet County.
