  • Leaders said the project will help bridge the digital divide and bring government services closer to residents.

Kakuyuni residents in Kangundo Constituency have a new reason to smile following the official commissioning of the Kakuyuni Digital Hub.

The facility, commissioned by Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule on Thursday, is expected to transform access to online jobs, digital skills training and government services for youth and small businesses in the area.

Speaking during the event at Kakuyuni Playground, Kyule, who was accompanied by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Yatta MP Robert Basil and Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo, said the hub will bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for young people to participate in the global digital economy without leaving their locality.

“This Digital Hub is about opportunity. Our young people can now do online work, apply for government services and learn digital skills right here in Kakuyuni. We want to make sure no one is left behind in the digital revolution,” said Kyule.

The Kakuyuni Digital Hub is equipped with computers, high-speed internet and training facilities.

It is expected to boost job creation by providing a workspace for online jobs, freelancing and other digital services.

The facility will also enable residents to access e-government services, including applications for national identity cards, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) services and Social Health Authority (SHA) services, among others.

In addition, the hub will offer digital literacy training for students, women groups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to strengthen computer skills and online entrepreneurship.

Bringing services closer to residents

The digital hub forms part of the government’s broader plan to establish digital centres in every constituency to promote innovation and self-employment.

Alongside the digital hub, Kyule also commissioned the new Kakuyuni Assistant County Commissioner’s office, which is expected to bring government administrative services closer to residents and improve security coordination.

The MP said bringing both technology and government services to the grassroots would improve service delivery and governance.

The commissioning was followed by a public rally at Kakuyuni Playground attended by hundreds of residents from across Kangundo Constituency.

Leaders present urged residents to support the government’s development agenda, saying several projects were already benefiting the area.

Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, who is also the UDA National Organising Secretary, cited the ongoing tarmacking of the Kangundo–Mwala road as evidence of the government’s commitment to delivering development.

“This team is made up of development-oriented leaders. There are people who have been in leadership for many years with nothing to show for it, but your MP Fabian has served for a short time and already you have a tarmac road and other development projects,” said Musyoka.
