The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened applications for an online training programme aimed at equipping Senior School and Vocational Level teachers with skills in item writing for Competency-Based Assessment.
According to a notice released on September 15, the virtual training will run from October 12 to October 30, 2026.
The initiative seeks to strengthen classroom and national assessment standards by helping educators develop quality test items aligned with curriculum outcomes and cognitive levels.
To qualify, prospective participants must be actively teaching their specialisation at the Senior School or Vocational Level under the Stage-Based Curriculum.

Applicants are required to hold relevant academic and professional qualifications, have at least one year of teaching experience, be registered with the Teachers Service Commission, and obtain a formal recommendation from their head of institution. Candidates must also demonstrate an irreproachable professional record with high integrity, while teachers who have previously completed KNEC training are advised not to apply.
Interested educators must submit their applications through the KNEC examiners portal at examinersapp.knec.ac.ke by September 30, 2026, with only shortlisted applicants notified.
Participants who complete the programme will receive certification and may be engaged by KNEC for future national assessment-related assignments as needs arise.
