The education sector in Bomet County has lost one of its seasoned educators following the death of retired headteacher Paul Kimutai Koech, fondly known as “Sing.”
Koech passed away on Friday, July 10, at South Rift Hospital in Kericho County after a short illness, bringing to an end a distinguished career that touched the lives of countless learners, teachers and families.
Born to the late Kibii Maina and the late Loice Maina, Koech was the third-born child in his family and hailed from Cheswerta Village in Ndaraweta Ward, Bomet Central Constituency.
Throughout his years in the teaching profession, he earned admiration for his commitment to education, strong leadership and mentorship of young people.
Former students remember him as a disciplinarian with a caring heart, while colleagues describe him as a dedicated administrator who always prioritised the welfare and success of learners.
His influence extended beyond the classroom, with many community members crediting him for inspiring generations to pursue education and become responsible citizens.
The retired headteacher’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from former students, teachers, church leaders and residents, who have celebrated his contribution to the growth of education in Bomet County.
A fundraising event to assist the family in settling hospital bills and funeral expenses will be held on July 17, while his burial is scheduled for July 21 at his home in Cheswerta Village.
