- The incident comes only weeks after another dormitory at the school was damaged in a separate fire on June 16.
Chianda Boys’ High School has been closed indefinitely after a weekend fire destroyed one of its dormitories, forcing administrators to send all students home in line with Ministry of Education directives.
The school announced the closure in a series of Facebook posts on Sunday, July 12, urging parents and guardians to make immediate arrangements to pick up their children or send transport fare.
“The boys have been released this morning following a strict instruction from those in charge. Make sure you either pick up your son or send him fare home,” the administration stated.

The decision followed a blaze that gutted the Senior Chief Nathan Ojungo House dormitory on Friday, July 10. The facility housed Form Three students from the Silver, Orange and another stream, leaving 113 learners displaced and stripped of their personal belongings.
“Only Senior Chief Nathan Ojungo House was destroyed by fire yesterday. Ojungo Houses Form Three students. Silver, Orange, and another stream spend here,” read one of the school’s posts.
School officials confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported, and all students were safely accounted for after the incident.
