Kisumu Central Member of the National Assembly Dr Joshua Oron has raised concern over the deteriorating physical state of Kisumu Day High School, one of the leading learning institutions in the area, saying its current condition falls far short of what it should be.
Dr Oron voiced his concerns after attending a board meeting at the school, an event also attended by members of the institution’s alumni, led by Mr John Onunga, and board chairman Mr Fred Madanji. He singled out the school’s structural condition for criticism, arguing that given its standing, it should be on a level comparable to Kisumu Boys High School.
“Considering the position of this school, it should have been on a comparable level with Kisumu Boys,” the MP said, underscoring the gap between the institution’s reputation and its current infrastructure.
To address the shortfall, Dr Oron urged the school board to settle on a date for a major fundraising drive, pledging to invite either President William Ruto or his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, to the event. He called on the school’s alumni network to rally behind the initiative as a united front.

“For this reason, all classes of alumni are requested to organise themselves and participate in the fundraiser as a unit,” he said, adding that a follow-up meeting would be convened soon to begin organising for the drive.
Senior Principal Rabet Abidha welcomed the MP’s gesture, noting that the school is in dire need of a major infrastructure upgrade. He described Kisumu Day High School as one of the oldest learning institutions in Kisumu Central Constituency, with a legacy that has made the intervention long overdue.
Beyond academics, the school has built a name for itself as a sporting powerhouse over the years, excelling particularly in soccer, hockey, and music, while also boasting a rich and accomplished alumni network that the MP is now banking on to drive the fundraising effort forward.
