Kericho County Governor Eric Mutai has appealed to the church to take a leading role in addressing the growing wave of unrest in schools across the country.
Speaking in Sigowett, Mutai said the church remains one of the most trusted institutions among young people and is well placed to help instill discipline and moral values.
“The church has a critical role to play in restoring discipline in our schools because many students are more willing to listen to and trust members of the clergy,” he said.
The governor noted that rising cases of student unrest require a collective response involving parents, teachers, religious leaders and the government.

According to the Council of Governors (CoG) Education Committee chair, building a responsible society can only be achieved through cooperation among all stakeholders.
“We must work together to nurture responsible citizens. Guiding children from an early age is essential if we want them to grow into disciplined and responsible adults,” Mutai said.
He also urged students to remain focused on their studies and commended the church for its continued support of education in the country.
His remarks come amid a surge in school unrest, with more than 200 schools reportedly closed nationwide following student disturbances.
