  • The Govt has launched three Digital Hubs in Wiyumiririe, Passenga and Mirangine in Nyandarua County to enhance digital learning, ICT access and skills development among students, youth and entrepreneurs.
  • The hubs will provide computers, internet connectivity, digital training and innovation spaces, supporting online learning, research, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities as part of Kenya’s broader digital transformation and education agenda.

Students, youth and aspiring entrepreneurs in Ol Kalou Constituency are set to benefit from enhanced digital learning opportunities following the launch of three Digital Hubs by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo officially commissioned the digital hubs at Wiyumiririe, Passenga and Mirangine, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in the Government’s efforts to equip young people with the digital skills required to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

The digital hubs, established through a partnership between the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy and the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), are aimed at expanding access to information and communication technology (ICT), promoting digital literacy and creating new opportunities for online learning, innovation and employment.

Speaking during the launch, Kabogo said the facilities will provide affordable internet connectivity, computers, digital skills training, innovation spaces and access to a wide range of government digital services.

He noted that the centres will enable students to conduct academic research, participate in online learning programmes, acquire market-driven digital competencies and explore opportunities in the growing digital economy.

“The Government remains committed to ensuring that young people have the tools and knowledge needed to compete in the modern digital landscape. These hubs will serve as centres of learning and innovation where students and youth can build their digital capacity,” said Kabogo.

While commissioning the Wiyumiririe Digital Hub, the Cabinet Secretary said the facility would serve as an innovation and learning centre for students, graduates and entrepreneurs seeking to develop practical ICT skills and access online employment opportunities.

At the Passenga Digital Hub, Kabogo launched a fully equipped computer laboratory designed to support digital learning and skills development. The centre is expected to benefit learners from neighbouring schools and higher learning institutions by providing access to modern technology that is often unavailable in rural communities.

During the commissioning of the Mirangine Digital Hub, the Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure across the country, saying increased access to technology will strengthen education, spur innovation and prepare learners for careers in the digital economy.

Education stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting that the hubs will complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to undertake online certification courses, conduct research, gain practical ICT experience and nurture entrepreneurship and innovation.

They said the facilities will also help bridge the digital divide by ensuring learners in underserved areas have access to the same technological resources available in urban centres.

The launch forms part of the Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to integrate technology into education, promote digital inclusion and prepare learners for the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

By expanding ICT infrastructure and digital literacy programmes, the Government aims to develop a workforce equipped with the knowledge, creativity and technological skills needed to compete in the global digital economy.

The three digital hubs are expected to serve as community centres for lifelong learning, innovation and youth empowerment while supporting Kenya’s vision of building a knowledge-based digital economy.
