Police in Tharaka Nithi County are investigating the death of a 52-year-old female primary school teacher who was found dead inside her locked rental house at Chiakariga Shopping Centre in Tharaka South Sub-county.

The deceased, identified as Purity Kinoti, a teacher at Kombo Primary School, was discovered after neighbours raised alarm on Sunday morning when she failed to respond to repeated calls.

According to police, the landlord was alerted after residents noted that Kinoti’s house had remained locked from the inside since Saturday, although a window had been left open.

Officers who responded to the scene found her lying lifeless on her bed under a mosquito net. Her body was partially undressed and no visible physical injuries were observed.

Investigations indicate that the teacher was last seen on Friday, June 19, at around 7pm outside her home as she prepared supper. She was not seen thereafter, and her house remained locked throughout Saturday, heightening concern among neighbours.

Police further reported that her mobile phone, which was still switched on, was found inside the house, while all her belongings appeared intact, ruling out a possible robbery.

The body was moved to Marimanti Level Four Mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
