Maseno School ended a 22-year wait for county volleyball glory after defeating Onjiko High School 3-2 in a thrilling boys’ volleyball final to clinch the Kisumu County Secondary Schools Games title.

The highly anticipated final lived up to expectations as the two volleyball giants battled fiercely in a five-set encounter. Maseno eventually held their nerve in the decisive set to seal a historic victory and reclaim the county crown after more than two decades.

The triumph sparked celebrations among players, teachers, students and supporters, with the victory marking one of the school’s most significant sporting achievements in recent years.

Maseno’s success was not limited to volleyball. The school also emerged as the Kisumu County basketball champions, underlining its dominance in this year’s county games.

However, the school’s rugby sevens team narrowly missed out on a title after losing to Otieno Oyoo School in a closely contested final. Despite the defeat, the team impressed throughout the competition and finished as runners-up.

The football team also remains in contention for county honours after advancing to the semifinals. The matches are scheduled for Monday, June 22, at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Mamboleo, Kisumu.

School officials praised the athletes for their determination and discipline, describing the performances as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to both academics and co-curricular excellence.

The volleyball title is expected to boost the team’s confidence as they prepare for the next stage of the school games, where they will face some of the best teams from across the region.

With county championships already secured in volleyball and basketball, and football still in the race for glory, Maseno School has emerged as one of the standout performers at the 2026 Kisumu County Secondary Schools Games.

The latest achievements reaffirm the school’s reputation as a sporting powerhouse and signal a strong return to prominence on the regional schools sports scene.
