Olmelil Secondary School emerged as the biggest winner at the Narok County Secondary School Term Two Games after clinching both the boys’ and girls’ football titles in a remarkable display of sporting excellence.
The Trans Mara West Sub-County-based institution outshone more established teams to complete a historic double during the championships held at Maasai Girls playgrounds.
In the boys’ category, Olmelil Secondary School stunned tournament favourites Ololulunga Boys Secondary School to lift the county title.
The thrilling final ended 2-2 after normal and extra time, forcing match officials to resort to penalties to determine the winner.
Olmelil held their nerve from the spot to win 3-0 and spark celebrations among players, teachers and supporters.
The champions enjoyed an impressive run to the final. In the semi-finals, they produced one of the most dominant performances of the tournament, thrashing Ilmashariani Secondary School 5-1.
On the other hand, Ololulunga Boys booked their place in the final after edging out Talek Boys Secondary School 2-0.
Olmelil’s journey to the title also included a convincing 3-1 victory over outgoing champions Nturumeti Secondary School, underlining their determination to dethrone the established giants of Narok football.
Boys’ team coach Hosea Kirui attributed the success to hard work, discipline and teamwork.
“The players showed great character throughout the tournament. We faced strong opponents, but the boys remained focused and believed in themselves. Winning the county title is a reward for their commitment and sacrifice,” said Kirui.
Girls complete the double
In the girls’ competition, Olmelil Secondary School completed the double after defeating Sekenani Girls Secondary School 1-0 in a closely contested final.
The girls’ team also had a difficult path to the championship.
In the semi-finals, they overcame Rongena Secondary School 4-3 on penalties after the two sides had settled for a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Sekenani Girls reached the final after eliminating former champions Oleshapani Girls with a narrow 1-0 victory.
