  • Safaricom and M‑PESA Foundations launched a Sh62 million project to modernize Bogesaka DOK Primary and Junior Secondary School in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County.
  • The project will deliver modern classrooms, ICT and science laboratories, internet‑connected computers, a kitchen, and improved sanitation facilities, benefiting both learners and the wider community.
  • Broadcasting and Telecommunications PS Stephen Isaboke, an alumnus of the school, emphasized the initiative’s role in preparing learners for the digital future and aligning with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.

Learners at Bogesaka DOK Primary and Junior Secondary School in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County, are set to benefit from modern digital learning facilities following the launch of a Sh62 million infrastructure project by the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Bogesaka, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke said the project will prepare learners for the digital future by providing modern classrooms, internet-connected computers, and improved learning facilities.

“The computers will have internet access to enable learners to conduct research and access educational resources. The facility will also be open to members of the community during weekends and after school hours to enhance their digital skills,” said Isaboke.

The Principal Secretary revealed that Bogesaka DOK Primary School holds special significance for him as it is his former primary school.

“This is my alma mater. My educational journey began here before proceeding to secondary school, high school, and university. We are grateful to Safaricom and the M-PESA Foundation for honouring our request to reconstruct this institution,” he said.

He noted that the school’s existing infrastructure had deteriorated over time and required a complete overhaul.

“This is not just a renovation; it is a complete transformation. The old structures will be replaced with modern facilities that meet the needs of today’s learners, including those under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC),” he added.

The project will include the construction of modern classrooms, a new administration block, a fully equipped ICT laboratory, a science laboratory, a kitchen, and improved sanitation facilities.

Isaboke said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at ensuring no learner is left behind in the digital era.

“Digital technology is the future. Through projects like this and the establishment of digital hubs across the country, we are ensuring that young people gain the skills they need to participate in the digital economy,” he said.

He also urged residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that more than 31 million Kenyans have already enrolled.

“Registration is free, and contributions are based on one’s ability to pay. We encourage all Kenyans to register and benefit from affordable healthcare services,” he said.

The Principal Secretary further called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together in instilling discipline and moral values among children.

“Discipline begins at home. Parents have the primary responsibility of teaching children right from wrong. Teachers then reinforce those values in school. We must raise a generation that is responsible, patient, resilient, and respectful,” he said.

M-PESA Foundation Project Manager Engineer Zachary Hamptons said the project is being implemented under the foundation’s Citizens of the Future programme, which seeks to transform lives through investments in education.

“Education is the foundation of every successful community. Through this initiative, the foundation is investing Sh62 million to improve learning infrastructure and create an environment where learners can thrive,” said Hamptons.

He said the project would involve the construction and modernization of classrooms, an administration block, a fully equipped ICT centre, a modern science laboratory, a kitchen, and sanitation facilities.

Hamptons added that the foundation is working closely with the national government, county government, and local community to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

“We strongly believe that investing in education is one of the most impactful ways of transforming lives and supporting the country’s development. Through the Citizens of the Future programme, we are committed to creating opportunities that empower young people and prepare them for the future,” he said.

The project is expected to significantly improve the learning environment at the school while expanding access to digital skills for both learners and members of the surrounding community.
