HELB has opened bar examination loan applications for Kenya School of Law students, with deadline set for June 26, 2026.

The loans fall under the HELB partner funds framework, which administers specialised products separate from the standard undergraduate loan.

Applicants must complete a mandatory financial literacy orientation, fill in their bio-data, upload the required supporting documents online and submit physical copies of their completed forms to the KSL offices in Karen.
Students at the Kenya School of Law (KSL) pursuing the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) can now apply for financial support through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for the 2026/2027 academic year, with the application window open on the student portal and set to close on June 26, 2026.
The loans fall under the HELB partner funds framework, which administers specialised products separate from the standard undergraduate loan. The primary confirmed option for this cycle is the Bar Examination Loan (BEL), which covers professional council examination fees administered by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).
The allocation amount is determined by the institution, and the loan carries an interest rate of 6 percent per annum.
The status of the KSL Tuition Loan, a separate product that covers instructional fees and is remitted directly to the school, remains unclear for this cycle.

During the previous academic year, KSL Director Henry Mutai announced that students would not receive tuition loan funds after the school was unable to replenish the Legal Education Fund due to budgetary constraints.
However, neither HELB nor KSL has publicly confirmed whether that gap has since been resolved. Students are advised to verify the tuition fund’s availability directly with HELB before proceeding on that basis.
Both salaried and non-salaried students are eligible to apply for available partner funds.
According to HELB’s student portal guidelines, applicants must complete a mandatory financial literacy orientation, fill in their bio-data, upload the required supporting documents online and submit physical copies of their completed forms to the KSL offices in Karen.
With the June 26 deadline now less than two weeks away, eligible students are urged to begin their applications promptly.
