Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has called on residents to support the growth of local universities by enrolling their children in institutions within the county.
Mwangangi spoke during a fundraising event for the construction of African Inland Church (AIC) DCC offices held at Katoloni Primary School grounds in Machakos on Sunday.
He said the unity and organisation of the AIC Church had contributed significantly to the growth of institutions such as Scott Christian University.
“I like the unity in the AIC. It is the kind of unity we should emulate. We now have Scott Christian University and it is one of the best universities locally,” said Mwangangi.
Call to Enrol Learners Locally
The Deputy Governor encouraged parents to consider local institutions when making higher education choices for their children.
Scott Christian University began as a theological college before receiving a charter to offer degree programmes in a range of disciplines.
“Take your children to Scott Christian University. I recently met student leaders there and I was very impressed. Let us support our local universities,” he said.
Higher Education Expansion
Mwangangi said Kenya experienced significant expansion in university education during the administration of former President Mwai Kibaki and former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka.
He expressed confidence that continued investment in higher education would contribute to national development.
Apart from Scott Christian University, Machakos County hosts several other higher learning institutions, including Daystar University and Machakos University.
