Hardly a week after Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo raised concerns over recurring school fire incidents and singled out Omobera SDA and Ekerubo CCF Comprehensive School as institutions frequently affected by such cases, Ekerubo CCF was again hit by a fire on Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out at around 9:00 a.m. while pupils had gone for church services, according to the school administration.

The timing meant that no learners were inside the dormitory when the fire started.

Property Destroyed

When Education News visited the scene, smoke and live embers were still visible as pupils, staff and parents watched helplessly.

Police officers from Kenyenya Police Station arrived at the scene, but the fire had already caused extensive damage.

School headteacher Julius Nyamboki confirmed the incident and said one dormitory and pupils’ personal belongings worth millions of shillings had been destroyed.

He declined to provide further details, saying investigations were ongoing.

None of the education officials contacted, including Kisii Sub-County Director of Education Gladys Zachary, was available for comment.

Several calls made by this reporter went unanswered.

Leaders Call for Calm

Bokimonge Ward MCA Amos Onderi appealed for calm among parents and the school community following the incident.

“Tell parents that a lot of property has been consumed in the blaze, but we thank God none of our children or teachers was hurt during the incident,” he said.

The school, located in Bokimonge Ward in Kenyenya Sub-County, has experienced repeated fire outbreaks, raising concern among parents, teachers and education stakeholders.
