The long-serving Special Education Head of Institution in West Pokot County, Zablon Kidogo Tomeyan, has passed away.
Tomeyan served for many years as the Headteacher of St. Francis School for the Visually Impaired in West Pokot County. He is remembered as one of the pioneer headteachers who initiated development projects and reforms at the institution.
He was born in 1956 at Masarit Village, Tamkal, in Pokot Central Sub-County.
He began his primary education at Tamkal Primary School in 1966, where he studied from Standard One to Four before transferring to Siyoi Primary School in West Pokot Sub-County. He sat for his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations in 1975.
In 1976, he joined Chewoyet Boys High School for his secondary education.
Teaching Career
In 1980, Tomeyan was employed as an untrained teacher and began his teaching career at Tororo Primary School in Mwino, Pokot Central Sub-County.
He later became the Headteacher of Tamkal Primary School in the same area. In pursuit of further education, he enrolled at Daystar University.

Tomeyan also served as the Headteacher of Totum Primary School in West Pokot Sub-County.
With vast experience in the education sector, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) later deployed him to head St. Francis School for the Visually Impaired in Kapenguria.
He is credited with championing development initiatives and improving learning conditions at the institution until his retirement.
Family Life
Tomeyan was married to Roselyne Tomeyan, the retired Principal of Nasokol Girls Secondary School. Together, they were blessed with four children: Noel Yeko, an employee of Access Bank; Shadrack Ruto, an employee of the West Pokot County Government; Sharon Chepkiyach, an employee of Standard Media Group; and Lea Chepkemoi, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Tributes
“Tomeyan was a great teacher and worked very hard to uplift education standards among learners in West Pokot County. He truly valued education,” said Samwel Mwok Mengich, his close friend and former schoolmate.
Burial Plans
Education stakeholders and residents across West Pokot County are mourning the death of Zablon Kidogo Tomeyan.

His burial is scheduled to take place at his home in Psigirio Village, Kapenguria, West Pokot County.
