The Ministry of Education (MoE) in Homa Bay County has revised the dates for the 2026 Term Two County Ball Games Championship after it emerged that the competition would overlap with the County Music Festival.
In a circular dated June 8, 2026, and addressed to all secondary school principals in Homa Bay County, the County Director of Education announced changes aimed at ensuring smooth management of co-curricular activities across the county.
The communication noted that the review became necessary after education officials discovered a scheduling conflict between the two major events.
According to the letter, “Following the release of activity dates for Music, it has been realized that the County Music Festival dates are overlapping with the earlier scheduled dates for term 2 Ball Games County Championship.”
Education officials said the adjustment would enable schools to effectively participate in both activities without disruptions.
Harmonization
The ministry further explained that “The purpose of this letter is to harmonize the activity dates for easy management and sharing of facilities by schools.”
Under the revised programme, the County Music Festival will be held from June 16 to June 21, 2026, at Mbita High School.
The letter states that “The received schedule for activity dates at county level is therefore as follows,” before outlining the new calendar.
Meanwhile, the County Term Two Ball Games Championship for Secondary Schools has been scheduled for June 29 to July 2, 2026.
Regional stage
The championships will be jointly hosted by Homa Bay High School and Ogande Girls High School, where schools from across the county will compete for top honours and qualification to the regional stage.
The Ministry of Education also assured schools that additional logistical arrangements would be communicated in due course.
According to the circular, “This office shall communicate the designated villages in due course for effective time and resource management for needy cases.”
Adequate preparation time
The revised schedule is expected to provide adequate preparation time for participating schools while ensuring that learners involved in both music and sports activities are not inconvenienced by conflicting programmes.
The directive was issued by M. Akala on behalf of the County Director of Education, Homa Bay County, and copied to the Regional Director of Education, Nyanza Region.
