In a remarkable demonstration of community engagement and mentorship, alumni, staff, and students from Mount Kenya University’s College of Health Sciences visited Kaharo Girls High School in Murang’a County for a career mentorship programme and the commemoration of World Menstrual Health Day 2026.
The team was warmly received by the school’s Principal, Veronica Kihonge, who encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity to interact with professionals and university students from diverse academic backgrounds.
The keynote address was delivered by the Director of Alumni Relations, Virginiah Kinankau, who challenged the students to pursue their dreams with determination, discipline and purpose.
Kinankau emphasised that success is built on hard work, resilience, focus and a commitment to lifelong learning.
The students also participated in an interactive career guidance session where they received valuable insights into various professions, academic requirements and career pathways.
As part of the World Menstrual Health Day 2026 celebrations, the learners attended a comprehensive menstrual health and period safety awareness session.

The highlight of the event came when all 700 students received two packets of sanitary towels each. The donation was received with immense gratitude by both students and staff, with many noting that the support would significantly contribute to improved menstrual hygiene management and help reduce barriers to uninterrupted learning.
