Anticipation is mounting across Kakamega County following the release of the official pools for the 2026 County Secondary Schools Soccer Championship, set to kick off on June 17 in Kakamega Central.

According to the organisers, the tournament will bring together the county’s top boys’ and girls’ football teams in a highly competitive contest as schools battle for county honors and qualification to the next stage of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games.

In the girls’ category, Pool A has already been tipped as one of the toughest groups, featuring football giants Butere Girls, alongside Musoli Girls, Mwira Secondary, and Kilimo Girls. The pool is expected to produce some of the tournament’s most thrilling encounters.

Pool B will see Magale Girls, Archbishop Njenga Girls, and St. Martha’s Mwitoti fight for a place in the knockout stages, while Pool C brings together Samitsi Girls, Navakholo Secondary, Mulwanda Secondary, and St. Anthony Kakoyi.

Meanwhile, St. Stephens Lwanda, St. Joseph Shibale, and Lukhokho Girls will battle it out in Pool D.

The boys’ championship has equally produced exciting matchups, with several traditional football powerhouses drawn into challenging groups.

Pool A features St. Peters Mumias High School, Munyuki Secondary, Namasoli Secondary, and either Malava Boys High School or Tande Boys, setting the stage for fierce competition.

In Pool B, Namamba Secondary, Shamberere Boys, and either Mukumu Boys Tsunami or Shanderema Boys Football Club will be seeking qualification.

Pool C has drawn together Kivaywa Boys, Mapera Secondary, Lubinu Boys, and the highly-rated Musingu Boys, popularly known as The Scorpions.

Defending football traditions will also be on display in Pool D, where Butere Boys, nicknamed The Exodus, will face Sirigoi School Super Lions FC and hosts Green Commandos S.C from Kakamega Central.

With schools finalizing preparations, coaches have expressed confidence in their squads ahead of the championship. Sports enthusiasts are expected to flock to Kakamega Central to witness what promises to be one of the most competitive county football tournaments in recent years.

The championship is not only expected to crown county champions but also serve as a platform for identifying talented players capable of representing Kakamega County at the regional and national levels.

As the countdown to June 17 continues, football fever is steadily sweeping across the county, with learners, teachers, and fans eagerly awaiting the first whistle.
