Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha has introduced a free mental health initiative to support students and parents dealing with trauma from recent school disasters.
The programme launched shortly after a tragic fire at Utumishi Girls High School claimed the lives of 16 students, leaving the local community in deep emotional distress.
Wamuratha urged affected families to visit her Kiambu Town office located near St. Paul’s Church on the way to Kirigiti, where a dedicated mental health specialist is available.
She emphasized that emotional wounds are often hidden and urged parents to look past surface-level behaviour for signs of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, or grief.

The free counseling services are open to all Kiambu County residents, regardless of which school their children attend.
Health experts and local stakeholders have praised the timely initiative, noting that early psychological intervention is essential for helping students recover, regain confidence, and safely continue their education.
