Education standards in Aldai Constituency have continued to improve following the implementation of the Aldai Masomo Bora programme.
The initiative by area MP Maryanne Keitany has significantly reduced the cost of secondary education for parents while boosting academic performance across the constituency.
MP Keitany lauded the programme, saying it has positively transformed learning in the area since its launch by ensuring students in all 42 day secondary schools receive financial support through the NG-CDF bursary kitty.
Speaking during a meeting with principals of day secondary schools in Kobujoi, Keitany said the programme was designed to ease the burden on parents while improving access to quality education for learners from vulnerable families.
The legislator noted that through the initiative, parents are now required to pay only KSh 1,500 per term for students in day schools, a move she said has greatly improved school attendance and retention rates.
“The Aldai Masomo Bora programme has made tremendous progress in our constituency by ensuring that learners in all the 42 day schools benefit from bursary support. Parents are now paying only KSh 1,500 per term, which has significantly reduced the financial burden of education,” said Keitany.
She explained that the programme has enabled many students who were previously at risk of dropping out due to school fees challenges to remain in school and continue with their education uninterrupted.
Keitany said she recently met principals of day schools in Kobujoi to review the progress of the programme and discuss strategies aimed at strengthening education standards and improving performance across the constituency.
“We had fruitful discussions with school principals on how to improve this year’s programme and chart a better path forward for our learners. Education remains one of our top priorities as a constituency,” she said.
The MP commended teachers in the constituency for their dedication and commitment toward mentoring students, noting that their efforts contributed to improved KCSE performance last year compared to previous years.
“I want to sincerely congratulate our teachers for the incredible work they continue to do in shaping the future of our children. Their dedication and sacrifice are clearly reflected in the improved KCSE results we witnessed last year,” Keitany added.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the education sector in the constituency through continued investment in bursaries, school infrastructure, and academic support programmes.
The legislator expressed optimism that through collaboration with parents, teachers, school administrators, and other stakeholders, the constituency would continue recording improved academic performance and produce top-performing students.
“Together with all stakeholders, we can create a brighter future for our children and achieve even greater academic success in Aldai Constituency,” she said.
Residents who attended the meeting praised the MP for prioritizing education and initiating programmes aimed at improving learning conditions in local schools.
Led by Jane Koech and Alice Sang, the residents cited institutions such as Aldai Girls High School and Kapchemosin Secondary School as examples of schools that have benefited from the MP’s education development initiatives.
They noted that Keitany’s close collaboration with teachers, parents, and education stakeholders had created a strong foundation for improved academic performance and student success.
“The MP’s commitment to quality education is visible in the improvements we are seeing in our schools. Learners are now better supported and schools are receiving the attention they need to perform well,” said Koech.
Alice Sang said the constituency’s steady rise in academic rankings within Nandi County was evidence that the education initiatives were yielding positive results.
“Aldai Constituency has moved impressively from position six to among the top three in education rankings within the county. This shows we are heading in the right direction under her leadership,” said Sang.
Parents and education stakeholders expressed optimism that continued support through the Aldai Masomo Bora programme would further improve academic standards, increase transition rates, and open up more opportunities for learners in the constituency.
